In a statement issued on Monday in response to the claims, the embassy said it “categorically rejects and strongly condemns the baseless and biased speculation” connecting Iran to the arrest of five suspects near RAF Fairford.
The embassy said the dissemination of such “fabricated speculation”, particularly following the US and Israeli “aggressive and criminal actions” against the Iranian people, serves no purpose other than fueling “Iranophobia” in Britain.
The Iranian diplomatic mission stressed that the Islamic Republic reserves its right to take appropriate legal measures to protect the rights and interests of Iran and its people in response to “misleading and damaging media narratives.”
The statement came after five men were arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on suspicion of explosives offenses and, subsequently, preparation of a terrorist act. British counter-terrorism police said they responded to a report on September 27 concerning three suspicious vehicles apparently traveling toward the airbase. Bomb disposal experts examined the vehicles, while residents of the nearby Whelford area were evacuated and a cordon was established.
The arrests have prompted an investigation, while British authorities have not established any possible connection with Iran in the case. Reports said investigators were examining suspected explosive devices and considering various possible motives, while the base has been used by US forces for military operations in the war of aggression against Iran.
