Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband on Thursday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Iranian and British foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Araqchi described the insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz as a consequence of the military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime, carried out with the support and cooperation of some European countries, saying the aggression has inflicted extensive damage on Iran, the region and the world.
He said lasting stability and security in the region depend on an end to the occupation and the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination.
The Iranian foreign minister also said Britain and a number of other European countries must be held accountable because of their role in the establishment and continuation of an occupying and terrorist regime in West Asia, namely the Israeli regime.
Araqchi called on some European governments to correct their “destructive and irresponsible” approaches toward Iran and regional developments, stressing that insistence on interfering in the internal affairs of countries and the instrumental use of human rights concepts are “by no means acceptable.”
He further described Britain’s continued comprehensive military and political support for the Israeli regime, along with that of some other European countries, as a major factor in the escalation of the regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people and regional countries.
Araqchi stressed that the UK and other countries are obligated under relevant international treaties to take action to prosecute and punish Israeli regime officials over genocide and war crimes.
Turning to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, the foreign minister emphasized Tehran’s responsible approach to using diplomatic capacities to resolve issues related to the program.
Araqchi said the three European countries — Britain, France and Germany — must also be held accountable for following the US’ illegal measures regarding the so-called snapback mechanism and for failing to adopt a firm position against the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
The two senior diplomats also exchanged views on bilateral relations and diplomatic and consular consultations between Tehran and London.
