Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simayi held separate meetings with Iraq’s Minister of Health and acting Minister of Higher Education, as well as senior Iraqi political figures, during his visit to the neighboring country.

In talks with Iraq’s higher education officials, the two sides discussed transferring Iran’s experience in expanding higher education while improving quality and meeting the needs of Iraq’s large young population. They also explored plans to attract talented Iraqi students to Iranian universities and expand joint educational and research programs.

Simayi said Iran is ready to provide greater educational and research opportunities for Iraqi youth, emphasizing that expanding higher education, developing skills and creating academic and research opportunities could help Iraq harness the potential of its young population.

During separate meetings with Ammar al-Hakim, leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, and Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, the Iranian minister discussed ways to strengthen academic ties, joint research and cooperation between universities and higher education institutions in the two countries.

The officials stressed the significant scientific and academic capacities of Iran and Iraq and called for stronger institutional cooperation to further develop bilateral educational and research ties.
