In a telephone conversation on Monday, the two presidents reviewed the latest regional developments and emphasized that diplomacy and closer coordination among regional countries remain essential to preventing tensions and promoting long-term security.
Pezeshkian praised the Turkish government and people for their support for diplomatic solutions and peace-oriented positions during recent regional developments.
He said Iran appreciates Ankara’s constructive approach and efforts during the 12-day conflict and the recent US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran to help resolve issues through diplomacy.
Highlighting the deep social, cultural, political and economic relations between the two neighboring countries, Pezeshkian said Muslim nations should strengthen unity and cooperation to advance peace, stability and security across the region.
Referring to the recent memorandum of understanding that ended the war, the Iranian president said the outcome had been achieved through the efforts of Turkey, Pakistan and other Islamic countries. He added that regional states should continue working to ensure Lebanon benefits from the peace process and that Israeli attacks against Lebanon and Palestine come to an end.
Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran remains fully prepared to pursue diplomacy within the framework of international law, stressing that the Islamic Republic has never sought war and that the US and the Zionist regime initiated unlawful aggression against Iran.
The Iranian president also called for accelerating economic cooperation between Tehran and Ankara, noting that recent conflicts had affected bilateral trade and proposing the formation of a joint economic commission to expand economic relations.
For his part, President Erdogan conveyed his greetings to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei and congratulated Iran on reaching the ceasefire memorandum of understanding.
The Turkish president said Ankara had repeatedly opposed intervention against Iran and had consistently prioritized fairness and dialogue.
Erdogan also commended Iran’s prudent and patient approach in negotiations with the US and expressed support for Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives.
He underscored the importance of sustaining regional dialogue and called for the swift establishment of a joint economic commission, saying deeper cooperation among Islamic and regional countries would help promote normalization and lasting stability.
