Pezeshkian Urges Stronger Muslim Solidarity in Eid Talks with Iraqi Leaders

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held separate telephone conversations with Iraqi president and prime minister on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, emphasizing the importance of enhancing unity among Islamic countries and expanding Tehran-Baghdad cooperation across various sectors.

During the calls on Tuesday, Pezeshkian conveyed Eid greetings to the Iraqi government and nation, wishing them continued peace, prosperity, and well-being.

He described Eid al-Adha as a profound manifestation of faith, sacrifice, and solidarity in the Muslim world, saying the occasion offers an opportunity to reinforce fraternity and closer coordination among Islamic nations.

The Iranian president noted that the shared principles and messages of the religious holiday could serve as a basis for broader cooperation among Muslim countries in addressing regional challenges and thwarting attempts aimed at creating division within the Islamic Ummah.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the close and strategic ties between Iran and Iraq, stating that relations between the two neighbors are founded on longstanding historical, religious, cultural, and people-to-people connections.

He called for broader engagement and deeper bilateral cooperation in areas including politics, trade, economy, science, culture, security, and regional affairs, his official website reported.

The discussions also touched on recent regional developments and ongoing joint cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad, with both sides stressing the importance of maintaining consultations and expediting the implementation of previously reached agreements in pursuit of common interests.

Referring to the situation in the region, the Iranian president expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic and political initiatives would contribute to the establishment of sustainable peace and stability, adding that efforts aimed at ending conflicts and easing tensions must yield practical outcomes.

Pezeshkian also invited the Iraqi president and prime minister to visit Iran, saying such exchanges could help further strengthen strategic relations and deepen brotherly ties between the two neighboring countries.
