Araqchi Condoles Hamas Leader over Son’s Martyrdom

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi extended condolences to Khalil al-Hayya, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, over the martyrdom of his son in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip.

In a message addressed to al-Hayya on Thursday, the Iranian foreign minister expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Azzam Khalil al-Hayya, the fourth martyred son of the senior Hamas official.

Araqchi said the Zionist regime mistakenly believes that such crimes could undermine the struggle of the Palestinian people against occupation, while in reality such acts only strengthen the determination of the resistance leaders and the Palestinian nation to continue the path toward the liberation of Palestine and al-Quds.

The Iranian foreign minister also prayed for divine mercy and forgiveness for the Palestinian martyr and the other late sons of al-Hayya, and wished patience and health for the Hamas leader and his family.

Azzam Khalil al-Hayya died of his injuries on Thursday after an Israeli air raid in Gaza City’s Daraj neighborhood late on Wednesday night.

The attack killed at least one more person and wounded nine others.

Al-Hayya had lost three sons in previous Israeli attempts on his life – two in Gaza in the 2008 and 2014 rounds of fighting, while the third was martyred in an Israeli attempt to kill Hamas leadership in the Qatari capital, Doha, in September last year.

The attack on Azzam followed two other Israeli raids on Wednesday on northern Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and another in the southern al-Mawasi area.

In total, at least 72,619 people have been killed and 172,484 wounded since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal war on Gaza in 2023. The majority of the victims are children and women.
