Hormuz Strait Not Closed; Insurers Concerned about US-Israeli War: Iranian FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized that the Hormuz Strait has not been closed by Iran, arguing that the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran has deeply troubled the companies providing insurance for ships.

As tensions rise in the region due to unprovoked US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, Araqchi took to X to clarify the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He emphasized that the strait is not closed to shipping traffic, attributing disruptions to the fears instigated by the aggressive postures of the United States and the Israeli regime.

“Strait of Hormuz is not closed. Ships hesitate because insurers fear the war of choice you initiated—not Iran,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

“No insurer—and no Iranian—will be swayed by more threats. Try respect,” he told the US and the Israeli regime.

“Freedom of Navigation cannot exist without Freedom of Trade. Respect both—or expect neither,” Araqchi stated.

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
