In a statement released by the Russian foreign ministry, Zakharova reaffirmed Moscow's firm opposition to external interference in Iran's internal political affairs. "The Iranian people's demonstration in support of the country's sovereignty has thwarted the malicious schemes of foreign powers," she said.
She further emphasized that Washington's threats of military action against Iran are "completely unacceptable."
The Russian diplomat added that those seeking to exploit externally instigated unrest as a pretext for repeating military aggression against Iran must be aware of the catastrophic consequences of such actions for the Middle East and international security.
Zakharova also strongly condemned efforts to extort Iran’s foreign partners through increased trade tariffs.
She stated that the illegal Western sanctions against Iran have hindered the country’s development, with the resulting economic and social problems disproportionately affecting ordinary Iranians.
The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson asserted that foreign forces are attempting to escalate social tensions in order to destabilize and overthrow the Iranian government. They are employing tactics reminiscent of "color revolutions," transforming peaceful protests into violent riots aimed at killing law enforcement and innocent civilians, including children.
With demonstrations separating from rioters and terrorists, unrest within Iran has subsided. However, the United States and Israel are threatening military action against Iran, seeking to obstruct the improvement of the security situation in Iran.
The experience of the 12-day war (with Israeli regime) demonstrated that foreign threats only bolster internal unity and cohesion among the Iranian people, and that Washington and Tel Aviv are incapable of defeating the Iranian nation through sanctions and military pressure.
The Russian stance aligns with previous statements by Iranian officials condemning foreign interference in the country’s affairs.
