FIBA Asia Championship: Iran 86 – 48 Japan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran opened its quest for a fourth title in the FIBA Asia Championship by routing Japan 86-48 on Wednesday.

In the match held in Changsha Social Work College's gymnasium in China, Oshin Sahakian led the way for Team Melli with 15 points, while Mohammad Hassanzadeh added 13 points off  the bench.

Iran can continue its winning ways against India Thursday, while Japan, who was  paced by Joji Takeuchi’s 10 points and 11 rebounds, hopes to recover and bounce back against Malaysia.

The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship for Men is the 28th continental basketball championship in Asia.  The competition is being held in Changsha from September 23 to October 3.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the basketball tournament on the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the next three best teams will participate at the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, as stated by FIBA and the IOC in qualification quota.
