The agreements were reached during a meeting between Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh and Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat on the sidelines of the 42nd ministerial session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) in Istanbul.
The two ministers agreed to establish a joint working group and hold regular meetings between border customs officials to address operational problems. They also emphasized the need for round-the-clock operations at border customs posts to increase trade capacity, reduce truck waiting times and speed up commercial procedures.
The talks also covered activating the full capacity of other shared border crossings for trucks and passengers, facilitating the passage of sensitive cargo, and establishing a joint working group on the two countries’ free trade and industrial zones.
Both sides pledged to maintain consultations and coordinate efforts through joint mechanisms to implement the agreements, facilitate trade and transit, and expand economic cooperation.
