Pezeshkian to Visit Russia for Gas Exporters’ Summit

Kazem Jalali said preparations were underway to finalize the details of the president’s visit.

“The Iranian president will travel to Moscow to attend the summit of heads of state of gas-exporting countries, which will be held on Tuesday, October 27,” the ambassador stated.

The 8th GECF summit is scheduled to bring together leaders of member countries in the Russian capital to discuss developments in global gas markets, prospects for cooperation among gas exporters, and ways to promote the role of natural gas in the global economy.

Russia has emphasized the importance of coordination among gas-exporting countries to safeguard their interests in international energy markets, counter unilateral economic restrictions, and strengthen the position of natural gas as an accessible, reliable and versatile energy source.

The summit is also expected to provide a platform for exchanging experience, advancing technological cooperation and developing joint initiatives to support global energy security amid changes in energy markets.

The GECF is an intergovernmental organization whose full members include Iran, Russia, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. Its founding agreement entered into force on September 30, 2009, and summits of member states’ leaders have been held every two years since 2011.
