“Threats and sanctions must be removed in practice to pave the way for dialogue,” Pezeshkian wrote in a post on his X account on Wednesday.
“One cannot continuously intensify sanctions and pressures—closing off avenues for engagement—while simultaneously speaking of negotiations,” he added.
“Dialogue conducted through the language of threats and pressure is meaningless.”
His remarks came a day after Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, visited Tehran and held meetings and consultations with senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During these discussions, the two sides addressed bilateral relations, regional developments, and Pakistan’s potential role as a mediator between Iran and the United States.
Earlier, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) underlined the need for the United States to take steps to build trust before any talks.
In a short message on his official account on X on Tuesday, Major General Mohsen Rezaei wrote that there will be no negotiations with the US until Washington takes steps to build trust.
