US Judge Extends Order Preserving White House Press Access for CNN, MS NOW, Politico

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A US federal judge ordered the Trump administration Tuesday to maintain White House press credentials for journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico while their lawsuit challenging a ban proceeds.

US District Judge Timothy Kelly granted the news outlets’ motion for a preliminary injunction, Anadolu Agency reported.

Kelly’s order said the administration “shall not execute, implement or enforce the September 18, 2026 decision to revoke the White House ‘hard pass’ press credentials held by employees of CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO.”

The ruling maintains “the status quo since the Court’s entry of a temporary restraining order on September 24, 2026,” the order said.

Trump announced on Sept. 18 that he was barring journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the outlets of spreading "fake news" and critical coverage.

Three days later, the three outlets filed a lawsuit saying the ban violates the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution, which cover the rights to a free press and due process, among other matters.

Judge Kelly later issued a temporary restraining order requiring the administration to reinstate the journalists' press badges.
