Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Reza Salehi Amiri made the proposal during a meeting with Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Imran Ahmed Siddiqui on Saturday.
They discussed ways to deepen the two countries’ cultural, historical and tourism relations.
Salehi Amiri said political and economic relations between Iran and Pakistan would gain greater meaning and depth when built on the historical and cultural ties between the two peoples.
He called for moving beyond short-term arrangements toward practical, program-based cooperation and proposed that the two countries develop a five-year strategic plan and roadmap.
“Our specific proposal is to develop a five-year roadmap in the fields of culture and tourism and move forward step by step with its implementation,” he said.
The minister said a key objective of future cooperation should be to familiarize the two nations with each other’s cultural and civilizational capacities.
There is considerable interest in cultural, religious and tourism activities in Pakistan, while Iran has diverse tourism attractions that can be introduced to the Pakistani people, Salehi Amiri concluded.
