Iran Secures First Asian Games Padel Medal As Shahi, Jamshidi Win Bronze

Shahi and Jamshidi won 6-3, 6-4 at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center to claim third place in padel’s Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

The all-Iranian bronze-medal match capped a strong campaign by both Iranian pairs, who had already guaranteed Iran a place on the podium by reaching the semifinals.

Golestan and Roghani advanced to the semifinals after defeating Japan’s Teruaki Ando and Shinnosuke Nakamura 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals, while Shahi and Jamshidi beat Japan’s Kenta Tomita and Hiroki Hatakeyama 6-1, 7-6.

Neither pair, however, could reach the final.

Golestan and Roghani were beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf and Mishari Nawaf, while Shahi and Jamshidi lost 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 to Malaysia’s Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus.

The bronze marked a historic achievement for Iran as padel made its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Meanwhile, Iran ranks seventh in the medals table with 15 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals.

The Aichi-Nagoya Games are being held from September 19 to October 4 across venues in Japan, with around 17,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions competing in 43 sports.

Iran’s delegation, named “Minab Angels” in tribute to the victims of the US-Israeli attack on Shajareh Tayyebe Elementary School in Minab on February 28, is competing at the Games with 305 athletes across 38 sports.
