Yemen Counterattacks Saudi-Led Coalition Headquarters in Aden

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Yemen responded to intensified Saudi airstrikes with a missile and drone attack on the Saudi-backed coalition’s headquarters in Aden early Friday, where powerful explosions were reported in the Al-Shaab area.

A series of powerful explosions rocked the coalition headquarters in the Al-Shaab area of Al-Buraiqa district in Aden province, according to Arab sources.

Yemeni users also circulated videos showing explosions in Aden and reported a heavy movement of ambulances toward the site.

Russia’s RIA Novosti reported that the Yemeni army and Ansarullah targeted the Saudi-backed coalition headquarters with missiles and drones.

The attack came hours after Saudi warplanes heavily bombed areas in Sana’a, Saada and Taiz late Thursday night and into Friday morning.

In Saada province, Saudi aircraft carried out 11 airstrikes within less than two hours against several areas, including communications infrastructure, followed by three strikes on Sahar district and a missile attack on Haydan district.

The southern outskirts of Saada city were also hit by six airstrikes, while Sahar district came under six additional attacks and two strikes targeted Saqin district.

In Maran district, a drone attack wounded two Yemeni civilians, while the border districts of Shada and Ghamr came under heavy artillery fire.

Meanwhile, Saudi warplanes carried out two rounds of airstrikes in Taiz province, targeting a building in Al-Barh in Maqbanah district and the Al-Kadha area of Al-Maafir district.

Four further strikes targeted the Al-Athawer and Al-Ahkoum areas of Hayfan district, while communications infrastructure in Al-Arouq was bombed twice.

Jabal Habashi district was also hit by six airstrikes.

The escalation followed a Saudi claim that Yemen had carried out a drone attack on a power station in Medina, which Saudi authorities said supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque.

Yemeni authorities strongly rejected the allegation, while describing it as a fabrication intended to divert attention from Saudi Arabia’s failure to substantiate an earlier claim involving an alleged attack on Mecca.
