Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan in New York on Saturday on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly session.
The Iranian foreign minister appreciated Malaysia’s principled positions in condemning the military aggression against Iran and the war crimes committed during it, stressing Iran’s determination to defend its national security and sovereignty against US acts of aggression and intervention.
Araqchi briefed his Malaysian counterpart on developments related to the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, Washington’s breach of commitments, and its economic terrorism against the Iranian people. He stressed that developing countries should work to protect their common interests and counter destructive US unilateralism and violations of international law.
He also informed Mohamad Hasan of the latest developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, including the Iran-Oman bilateral understanding on establishing safe shipping routes in the waterway. Araqchi said that the only factor behind the continuation of insecurity in the strait is US acts of aggression.
The two foreign ministers also discussed the need for greater cooperation and coordination among Muslim countries, including within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to counter the genocide and crimes committed by the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian territories and other parts of the region.
They further stressed the continuation of consultations and expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
