Araqchi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly.
The two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Araqchi explained the latest regional developments and outlined Iran’s positions, describing the US’ breach of commitments and aggressive approach toward Iran, including a maritime blockade and attacks on Iranian commercial shipping, as the main cause of insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz.
Araqchi stressed the international community’s responsibility to hold the aggressors accountable.
The Iranian foreign minister also briefed his Indian counterpart on the latest status of Iran-Oman talks and understandings on establishing a safe route for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
He also informed Jaishankar about continued efforts by mediators to convey the conditions and essential elements required for a return to the diplomatic process.
The two ministers reviewed developments in their shared neighborhood and stressed the importance of using all available capacities to improve security and prevent an escalation of tensions in the region.
They also exchanged views on following up on the implementation of bilateral understandings in various economic and trade fields and on strengthening high-level consultations between the two countries.
