Pezeshkian and Rahman met on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Pezeshkian highlighted the longstanding friendly ties between Iran and Bangladesh, stressing the two countries’ significant potential to broaden cooperation in various fields.
He also thanked Bangladeshi Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram for attending a ceremony held to honor martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, describing his participation as a sign of solidarity and the depth of the friendly relations between the two nations.
Addressing regional developments and the recent US and Israeli acts of aggression against Iran, the Iranian president said the Islamic Republic would not yield to force or pressure. He added that Iran would continue engaging with other countries on the basis of mutual respect and seek constructive relations with the international community.
Rahman, for his part, described relations between Bangladesh and Iran as being at a favorable level and praised Iran for supporting Bangladeshi nationals during the recent crisis.
The Bangladeshi prime minister also expressed condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and condemned the recent attacks against Iran, emphasizing the importance of peace, stability and respect for national sovereignty.
The two leaders further reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations and ways to expand joint cooperation, agreeing on the need to convene the sixth Iran-Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission in the near future.
