The explosions occurred at a site in the vicinity of Al-Eis, with Syrian state media SANA reporting that the cause remained under investigation.
Faisal Mohammad Ali, the head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, said rescuers evacuated four injured people from the site, while continuing explosions hindered emergency teams from reaching the area.
The authorities have urged civilians to remain away from the site as emergency crews work to secure the surrounding area.
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents not to leave their homes for the time being, adding that “hospitals, ambulance and emergency teams are on full alert”.
Aleppo’s Internal Security Command said roads leading to the site were closed “to ensure the safety of civilians”.
Meanwhile, a resident of Aleppo’s Hamdaniyeh neighborhood told AFP that they heard a “huge explosion” and, after going to the roof, saw “large flames in the distance”.
Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto, reporting from Aleppo, said a series of blasts followed the initial explosion.
“The explosions are audible from a few kilometers away from the site. We have now seen a series of ambulances and fire trucks enter towards the position,” he reported.
The latest incident adds to a series of deadly explosions at military and weapons-storage sites in Syria in recent weeks, raising further questions about security conditions and the management of military facilities under the new administration.
Earlier this month, an explosion at a weapons depot belonging to the Ministry of Defence killed 14 people and injured 11 in Syria’s northwest Idlib province.
Five people were also killed just over a week earlier in the same area when a vehicle carrying munitions exploded.
Separately, an explosion of unknown origin killed 11 people at a military site in the eastern province of Deir Az Zor on Friday.
