Mohammad Hossein Daneshfar, CEO of the Caspian Oil Company, said that the company has plans to expand exploration activities in the country’s northern provinces, adding that following the completion of major repairs, the Iran Amir Kabir semi-submersible rig will begin exploration activities in the deep-water section of the Caspian Sea in 2027.
He noted that a significant portion of the structures identified in the Caspian Sea through exploration activities carried out in previous years are located in deep-water areas.
The Iran Amir Kabir semi-submersible rig also conducted drilling operations at the ‘Sardar-e Jangal’ structure in the 2010s, proving the presence of oil in the area, he stated.
Regarding exploration activities in Gilan and Golestan provinces, Daneshfar said exploratory drilling is underway off the coast of Gilan and in Block 18 of the Caspian Sea, adding that the results will determine whether the structure under study is economically viable.
He further said that seismic surveys have been conducted in parts of Golestan’s onshore, offshore and shallow-water areas. Based on the results obtained, the drilling of one well is scheduled to be carried out next year, he noted.
