Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the parliamentary commission, said Araqchi attended the commission’s Monday meeting and discussed a range of important issues, including current developments in Iran and the region.
Speaking after the meeting, Araqchi said a comprehensive briefing was provided to lawmakers on the latest developments, including the agreement with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz, negotiations and the efforts of mediators, Iran’s conditions for reopening the waterway, the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, and the upcoming BRICS summit.
He added that the briefing also covered Iran’s relations with neighboring countries, bilateral ties and joint projects, as well as economic diplomacy.
The foreign minister said lawmakers also raised questions about the Caspian Sea Convention, noting that a bill concerning the convention had recently been submitted to Parliament. He said the relevant issues were explained to the lawmakers.
Addressing the Parliament’s consideration of the ‘Strategic Action Plan for Ensuring the Security and Development of the Strait of Hormuz’, and the administration’s position on the proposed legislation, Araqchi said the cabinet’s general approach is to cooperate with Parliament in policymaking and legislation through legal procedures while providing technical and expert opinions.
Araqchi stressed that the future management of the Strait of Hormuz and related strategic issues are among the serious matters under consideration by the Parliament. He added that Foreign Ministry experts, alongside specialists from other government bodies, are participating in the relevant meetings.
