In comments on Monday, Brigadier General Alireza Elhami explained that the main differences between Iran’s domestically developed air defense equipment and foreign-made systems could be summarized in several key areas.
He identified independence in upgrading and updating the systems as the first major advantage, stressing that because threats are constantly changing in form, nature and tactics, Iran must continuously adapt its equipment to emerging threats.
The commander said this process can be carried out “much faster and more easily” with systems whose software and hardware are fully under Iran’s control than with foreign equipment, which requires reliance on other countries for upgrades.
Lauding the capabilities of the Army’s Air Defense Force and the refurbishment of its air defense systems, he said Iran is now fully relying on its homegrown capabilities and is continuously increasing both the quantity of equipment it produces and the variety of their applications and tactics.
Elhami also pointed to the performance of indigenous systems during the recent 40-day US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, saying, “The equipment produced during this battle passed a successful test and is now being rapidly replicated.”
The homegrown systems are being deployed across the entire territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the commander stated.
