GasBuddy data predicted the national average would reach $4.03 per gallon on Monday, compared with the previous Labor Day record of $3.83 set in 2012.

Meanwhile, the national average gasoline price stood at about $4.13 per gallon on Thursday, nearly $1 higher than the average a year earlier, according to GasBuddy.
Analysts told Reuters that $4 per gallon represents a “pain point” for US consumers.
