Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek on Tuesday.
Reaffirming Iran’s determination to stand firmly against the US and the Zionist regime, Pezeshkian said, “If the other side wants to continue, we remain committed to the same memorandum of understanding that we signed. If the US returns to that same memorandum of understanding, we will abide by it as well.”
“We have requested nothing but our country’s rights in that memorandum, and that is what we are pursuing. Basically, the US cannot impose unlawful demands on our country,” Pezeshkian added.
Turning to Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, Pezeshkian said Tehran’s participation in the two groupings is aimed at confronting unilateralism.
The Iranian president also welcomed the Russian president’s view that a multilateral system should be established and said Iran supports efforts by countries seeking to move away from unilateralism.
“We hope that this effort will make us, you, and the countries that are seeking to move away from unilateralism victorious,” Pezeshkian said, adding, “I am certain that we will prevail. This is our belief, and God willing, we are standing firm.”
Pezeshkian also condemned the US attacks against Iran, saying major powers have no right to commit aggression simply because they possess greater power and without regard for international laws and frameworks.
He described the US aggression against Iran as having “no legal, scientific or logical basis,” and referred to the assassination of martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Iranian commanders, scientists and innocent students, as well as attacks on Iranian civilians.
“There is no mental, rational or international framework under which this behavior can be justified,” he said.
Pezeshkian further criticized Washington’s claims regarding human rights and adherence to the rule of law, saying the actions of the US cannot be justified under any credible legal framework.
