The shooting happened at about 11:37 pm in the 5400-block of Cottage Grove Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood, police said, ABC7 Chicago reported.
CPD said officers were at the scene to disperse a crowd when someone started shooting.
Ten people were shot, one of them being a 35-year-old man who died at the hospital.
Seven people were shot, including four men and three women, with injuries ranging from gunshot wounds to the shoulder, arms, legs and chest. Six victims were reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover, while the conditions of a 37-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were unknown.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
