Israeli Settler Violence in West Bank Exposing True Colors of Israeli Regime

Israeli Settler Violence in West Bank Exposing True Colors of Israeli Regime

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli security officials have warned that escalating attacks by the illegal settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are causing “serious” political damage to Israel, as the violence increasingly unfolds in full view of the international community.

The officials, cited by Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, said Israeli regime soldiers are being forced to confront incidents on the ground amid what they described as a lack of firm law enforcement by police and other state authorities, sometimes without adequate tools or support.

The attacks are “taking place before the eyes of the entire world and causing serious political damage to Israel,” the officials said, while warning that the violence is also placing additional strain on Israeli forces deployed across the occupied territory.

The warnings came after a settler attack on Friday in the West Bank town of Sa’ir, in Hebron province, in which 17-year-old Palestinian Karim Shalaldeh was killed and others were wounded.

The Israeli regime’s army said a group of settlers entered the town on a “trip” without prior coordination with the military and claimed they came under stone-throwing by Palestinians, KAN reported.

A medical source at Al-Mizan Hospital in Hebron told Anadolu that Shalaldeh died from gunshot wounds.

His father, Sanad Shalaldeh, told Anadolu that about 50 Israeli settlers attacked the family’s home and that one of them shot his son at close range.

“My son was standing in front of the house and did nothing. When he asked them to move away, one of them shot him in the chest and killed him in cold blood,” he said.

Meanwhile, the broader pattern of settler violence has drawn increasingly severe international scrutiny.

A June report by the UN Commission of Inquiry said Israel bears primary responsibility for the actions of Israeli settlers in the West Bank and concluded that settler violence was being enabled by Israeli authorities through financial and military support, while law enforcement had provided what it described as decades of impunity.

The commission said settler violence functions as a means of implementing Israeli state policy, including maintaining the occupation, entrenching settlements, annexing Palestinian territory and displacing Palestinians from their land.

In a separate report, the UN human rights office said Israel’s settlement expansion and settler violence had contributed to the forced displacement of more than 36,000 Palestinians, describing settler attacks as coordinated, strategic and largely unchallenged.

The United Nations said in August that settler violence in the West Bank had reached unprecedented levels, with more than 1,430 incidents documented in 2026 and nearly 3,800 Palestinians displaced by settler violence, demolitions and evictions.

Human Rights Watch has likewise warned that years of lawlessness and impunity surrounding settler attacks have turned the occupied West Bank into a “powder keg,” calling for urgent action to prevent further violence and atrocities.

The occupied West Bank has experienced a sharp rise in Israeli military incursions and settler attacks against Palestinians and their property since Israel launched its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023.

The growing international record of killings, displacement and attacks has increasingly challenged Israel’s presentation of itself as a state committed to law and order, while its own security officials now acknowledge that the conduct of settlers is damaging Israel’s standing before the world.

The violence continues to place Palestinian civilians at risk while exposing the widening gap between Israel’s stated security claims and mounting international accusations over its treatment of Palestinians in the occupied territory.
