Iran Warns of False-Flag Plot after Attack on KRG PM’s Office

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi rejected any justification for a drone attack on the office of Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, warning that “false-flag ploys” could be aimed at sowing discord between Iran and its neighbors.

Araqchi made the remarks in a post on his X account on Monday night, after KRG authorities alleged that the attack had been launched from Iranian territory, a claim Tehran has rejected.

“Nothing justifies the reckless attack on PM Barzani's office. Kurdish friends should be vigilant against false-flag ploys to sow discord between neighbors,” the Iranian foreign minister warned.

“We protected our Kurdish friends against Saddam and DAESH, and we're thankful for security they've provided on our border,” Araqchi added.

The KRG’s security agency said Barzani’s office was targeted by drones early Monday, while the residence of the head of the region’s security and intelligence agency was also attacked.

No casualties were reported.

The agency alleged, without presenting evidence, that the drones were launched from Iranian territory.

Barzani has condemned the attack in a post on X as “illegitimate and unacceptable.”
