Pezeshkian made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday, during which he thanked Japan for its positive views on the need to stop the war.
The president stressed that Iran has “by no means” sought unrest in the region, saying the United States and the Zionist regime have disrupted regional peace and stability through their aggression against Iran, the assassination of martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the martyrdom of a large number of civilians, including students in Minab, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Pezeshkian said Iran has never acted outside international law and has always sought to improve relations with its neighbors.
He also expressed hope that Japan’s diplomatic efforts to establish peace and stability in the region would bear fruit and prevent acts of aggression and warmongering by the powers responsible for aggression in the region.
Takaichi, for her part, reaffirmed Tokyo’s support for diplomatic means to end the war, describing such an approach as being in the long-term interests of Iran and the region.
The Japanese prime minister welcomed progress in negotiations between Iran and Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz and expressed hope that, following the successful completion of the talks, passage through the strait would be reopened as soon as possible.
She also asked Pezeshkian to use Iran’s influence to prevent an escalation of tensions in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
During the phone call, the two leaders reaffirmed their determination to continue dialogue and develop the historic relations between the two nations.
