According to Tasnim’s correspondent in Karbala, the city’s al-Tarbiyah Square, one of the main and key points along Wednesday’s funeral route, has witnessed the gathering of mourners and the establishment of mourning service camps, known as ‘Mawkibs’, hours before the official start of the ceremony.
The funeral procession in Karbala started from the Sayed Judah area, located around 2.5 kilometers from al-Tarbiyah Square, and continued toward the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), which is approximately two kilometers from the square. The total procession route in the city is estimated to be around 4.5 kilometers.

The service camps have been providing services since Tuesday to large numbers of mourners arriving from different Iraqi provinces to attend the ceremony. The service stations are offering food, accommodation, and other assistance to visitors near the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS).
These areas, which annually host millions of pilgrims during Arbaeen and Ashura mourning ceremonies, are now welcoming mourners paying tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The Karbala ceremony follows the funeral procession in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf, where the body of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was taken to the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) for a farewell ceremony attended by a massive crowd of mourners.
The official funeral procession began in Najaf at 6 am local time on Wednesday and continued through the city before heading toward Karbala for another major farewell ceremony honoring the martyred Leader.
