In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said the “terrorist US military” carried out military aggression against several monitoring and surveillance centers on Iran’s southern coast in the early hours of July 8.
“The attacks constitute a blatant violation of Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations and also amount to a flagrant breach of Clause 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Termination of the War, which provides for the cessation of military operations,” the statement said.
The ministry said the repeated unlawful attacks against Iran, coupled with the US Treasury Department’s decision the previous night to revoke Iran’s oil export license—despite Washington’s commitment under Clause 10 of the memorandum—as well as violations of the Iranian arrangements governing the Strait of Hormuz and the continuation of the Zionist regime’s military aggression and terrorist acts against Lebanon, had rendered “important and fundamental” parts of the agreement ineffective.
“The responsibility for the dangerous consequences of this escalation of tensions lies with the treaty-breaking US regime,” it said.
The Foreign Ministry also stressed that all governments, particularly the neighboring states on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf, are under an international legal obligation to prevent the aggressing parties from using their territory or facilities to carry out hostile acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Any cooperation in committing the crime of aggression against Iran constitutes complicity and participation in that crime,” the ministry warned.
The statement strongly condemned the US’ repeated acts of aggression and breaches of its commitments.
Recalling the responsibilities of the United Nations Security Council and the UN secretary-general for maintaining regional and international peace and security, the ministry emphasized that Iran’s powerful Armed Forces, “as they have repeatedly demonstrated, will not hesitate, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, to defend Iran’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty and national security against US military aggression, and will also target the source and origin of the aggression.”
