Qom Governor Akbar Behnamjo outlined the schedule and preparations for the upcoming funeral procession, saying the body of the martyred Leader is expected to enter the province at around 5:00 am on Tuesday, July 7.
He said funeral prayers will be held at the Holy Jamkaran Mosque with the participation of large numbers of residents of Qom as well as pilgrims from across Iran and several other countries.
Behnamjo said the Jamkaran Mosque will serve as the main gathering point before the procession begins its route along Prophet Mohammad Boulevard toward the holy shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masoumeh (SA) in the city of Qom.
The governor added that extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate visitors, with around 1,000 locations, including schools, stadiums, religious seminaries, and religious centers, prepared to host pilgrims. He also highlighted the significant contribution of local residents, many of whom have opened their homes and established volunteer service stations for mourners.
He said authorities expect to host at least one million visitors in official accommodation facilities. In addition, 15 medical centers have been placed on full alert, including 11 operated by the Iranian Red Crescent Society and emergency services and four affiliated with the Qom University of Medical Sciences.
The main funeral procession for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution began in Tehran on Monday morning, with large crowds taking to the streets from the early hours to participate in the historic ceremony.
The funeral ceremonies officially began on July 3, when foreign dignitaries and official delegations from across the region and beyond arrived in Tehran to pay tribute to the late Leader.
On July 4 and 5, millions of mourners attended the farewell ceremonies at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Musalla, where continuous Quran recitations and elegies created an atmosphere of profound grief and steadfast resolve.
Funeral prayers for the martyred Leader and members of his family were held at the Musalla on July 5 with the participation of senior Iranian officials.
Following Tuesday's ceremonies in Qom, funeral and tribute events will continue in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday at the request of Iraqi religious and political leaders, before concluding with the burial of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad on Thursday.
Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred in a joint US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28, 2026, at the outset of a 40-day war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
His assassination triggered widespread condemnation and mourning across Iran and the Axis of Resistance, with participants in the funeral ceremonies carrying red flags as a declaration that the demand for justice and retribution for the martyred Leader remains alive.
