Nearly 20,000 Medical Services Provided to Mourners at Funeral of Martyred Imam

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – For the first time in Iran, a patient was transferred via subway during the farewell and funeral ceremonies of martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as medical teams have delivered nearly 20,000 health and emergency services to people in the mass gatherings, an official said.

Head of the Relief and Emergency Medical Committee of the Funeral Headquarters, Mohammad Esmaeil Tavakoli, said that a total of 19,555 medical services have been provided to mourners attending the farewell ceremonies in Tehran so far.

Speaking to Tasnim, Tavakoli noted that the health sector has not reported any major incidents, except for two cases of cardio-respiratory arrest. He said both patients were successfully resuscitated by emergency teams and subsequently transferred by helicopter to designated hospitals.

He added that 9,282 pre-hospital emergency services were delivered at health stations and emergency posts to people seeking medical assistance during the ceremonies.

The most frequently reported issue, he said, has been weakness, fatigue, and heat-related illness due to high temperatures, accounting for 3,814 cases so far.

Tavakoli further stated that five air evacuations have been carried out, and for the first time in the country, a rail-based patient transfer via the subway system is also being conducted in cooperation with the Tehran Metro Company.

He also confirmed four cases of acute heart attack, all of which were successfully transferred to medical centers for treatment.

The farewell and funeral ceremonies for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran have drawn an extraordinary number of participants from across Iran and abroad, with vast crowds filling streets, public squares, and transportation hubs since the beginning of the mourning period.

The scale of participation, alongside the continued arrival of delegations and mourners from different provinces, has led organizers and observers to describe the ongoing ceremonies as unprecedented in both size and public turnout. With turnout continuing to grow, the event is expected to break records as the largest and most crowded funeral gathering ever held in Iran’s contemporary history.
