Iran’s Negotiating Team Adhere Strictly to Framework Set by Leader: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran emphasized that the negotiating team to be dispatched to Switzerland for signing the memorandum of understanding with the US will strictly adhere to the policies and framework set out by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

President Masoud Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday at a gathering attended by members of the cabinet, provincial governors, and more than 3,500 county governors and district administrators from across the country.

Describing Iran’s recent diplomatic achievement as another source of pride for the Iranian nation, Pezeshkian said the outcome had been secured through steadfastness and resistance in the face of excessive demands and had drawn international attention while bringing dignity and honor to the country.

The president expressed appreciation for members of the negotiating team, including Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, and said the achievement was the result of exemplary unity, solidarity, and coordination among the three branches of government and the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He stated that full implementation of the understanding, provided that the other side fulfills its commitments, could help address many regional challenges and create new conditions in the international arena. Pezeshkian added that the concern and anger shown by the Zionist regime over the process constituted a clear indication of the success and victory of the Iranian nation.

Reiterating the central role of the Leader in the process, the president stressed that the delegation assigned to sign the agreement would not deviate under any circumstances from the policies and guidelines determined by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei and that all decisions and measures would remain within the framework of national interests and the strategic lines of the Islamic establishment.

Pezeshkian further described the guidance and support of the Leader as decisive in achieving the diplomatic breakthrough, saying that such an outcome would not have been possible without his direction and backing.

The memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US was reached following weeks of indirect negotiations mediated by Pakistan. According to officials involved in the process, the understanding provides for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, and is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.

Iranian authorities have said the memorandum is intended to create conditions for advancing toward a broader settlement, stressing that future negotiations will proceed only after implementation of commitments by the other side. Under the agreed framework, the signing of the MoU will be followed by a 60-day period of negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement, while reported final amendments included provisions concerning the management of the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
