Israeli Attacks on Southern Lebanon Continue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Zionist regime carried out a series of military strikes and artillery bombardments across several districts in southern Lebanon on Saturday, targeting towns in Jezzine, Nabatieh, Tyre, and Marjayoun.

According to Al Mayadeen's correspondent, the most intense strikes occurred in the Jezzine District. An initial drone strike targeted a vehicle in the town of Kfar Hounah, while three additional airstrikes hit the vicinity of a Lebanese Army checkpoint near the town.

In the same district, warplanes conducted a strike on the town of Al-Rihan and its outskirts, while strikes were reported on the outskirts of Sojod.

Artillery shelling resumed in the Nabatieh District, where shells fell in the Rahbat neighborhood of the city of Nabatieh. Further south, in the Tyre District, the Israeli forces shelled the town of Sarifa and launched a strike on the town of Maarakeh.

The hostilities extended to the Marjayoun District with an attack on the town of Khiam.

The Lebanese government continues to insist on pursuing a path of direct negotiation with Israeli authorities despite the ongoing war on the country. However, this diplomatic approach remains widely rejected across the national and popular spectrum, with many Lebanese citizens voicing opposition to direct talks while hostilities continue.

The fifth round of talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials is scheduled to begin in Washington on June 22, a Lebanese official source told Al Mayadeen, describing the upcoming discussions as critically important for resolving outstanding issues related to the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

According to the source, the Lebanese delegation will include military officials, reflecting the significance of the talks and their focus on determining a framework for Israeli withdrawal through what are being described as "pilot zones."

The source explained that these pilot zones would involve a gradual Israeli pullout from designated locations, carried out in parallel with the deployment of the Lebanese army and the implementation of a state-led plan aimed at restricting weapons to official state authorities.

The upcoming round will focus on practical mechanisms for implementing withdrawal arrangements on the ground, as well as assessing security measures linked to the expanded deployment of Lebanese army forces across the region.
