New Chapter Opens in Iran’s Defense Policy: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran’s Expediency Council described a recent response to Israeli ceasefire violations and continued acts of aggression as the beginning of a new chapter in Iran’s defense policy that is based on initiative and offensive power rather than waiting for threats to materialize.

In a post on his social media account on Monday, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani reacted to the powerful response of Iran’s Armed Forces to the violation of the ceasefire and the continuation of aggressive actions by the Zionist regime.

“Iran’s attack in defense of Lebanon was not merely a military response; it was the official declaration of a strategic doctrine,” he wrote.

According to the cleric, the Iranian operation conveyed a clear message that any aggression against one component of the Axis of Resistance would trigger a response extending beyond geographical borders and would alter regional equations.

He added that Iran simultaneously demonstrated that any expansion of conflict or attack against the country’s vital infrastructure would be met with a comprehensive and deterrent response.

“Such a response could encompass all actors supporting this confrontation,” he stated.

The senior official concluded that Iran has opened “a new chapter in its defense policy,” explaining that the preservation of Iran’s regional power would no longer be based on waiting for threats, but rather on initiative and offensive capability.

His remarks came amid escalating regional tensions following Israeli attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs and repeated violations of the April 8 ceasefire agreement.

In response, Iran launched a series of missile strikes against Israeli military targets in the occupied territories. Late Sunday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted the Ramat David airbase, describing it as the source of Israeli aggression against Lebanon.

On Monday morning, the IRGC launched ‘Operation Nasr (Victory)’ against the Tel Nof and Nevatim airbases in response to Israeli strikes on radar sites inside Iran.

Tehran has described the operations as legitimate acts of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warned that any further Israeli attacks on Lebanon or Iranian interests would be met with a broader and more forceful response.
