In a statement released on Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the terrorist US military carried out strikes in the early hours of June 6 against radar and coastal monitoring installations in the Sirik region and on Qeshm Island. The ministry noted that the facilities were tasked with safeguarding Iran's borders and ensuring maritime security in international waterways.
The statement described the attack as a continuation of hostile and provocative US actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran and said it demonstrated the complete disregard of the US ruling establishment for the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
According to the ministry, the powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran exercised their inherent right of legitimate self-defense and responded to the attack with vigilance, determination, and full authority. It said Iranian forces delivered a proportionate and effective response and prevented the perpetrators from achieving their objectives.
Repeated US violations of the ceasefire once again prove that Washington lacks any intention to reduce tensions or return to the path of stability, the statement said. Instead, it added, the United States is endangering regional security through adventurist actions.
Iran further warned that the US government bears responsibility for all consequences arising from these unlawful actions, as well as any potential escalation of tensions resulting from them.
Reaffirming Iran's inherent and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the Foreign Ministry stressed that the Islamic Republic would use all available capacities to defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests.
The ministry also called on regional countries to observe the principle of good neighborliness and adhere to the fundamental rule of international law prohibiting states from allowing aggressor parties to use their territory or facilities to plan and carry out hostile actions against another country.
In addition, the Foreign Ministry urged the United Nations Secretary-General, the United Nations Security Council, and other relevant international bodies to respond immediately and effectively to the continued blatant violation of the ceasefire and the unlawful actions of the United States.
The statement further called on the international community to prevent the growing normalization of violations of the UN Charter and actions that threaten regional and international peace and security.
