Regional States Cannot Rely on US, Israel for Security: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Countries in the region have realized more than ever that they cannot rely on the United States and the Zionist regime to ensure regional security, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.

Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan on Thursday on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the latest situation following the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.

Explaining the latest developments related to the US-Israeli imposed war and the ceasefire, Araqchi described the recent 40-day war as an important turning point in developments in West Asia.

“Today, regional countries have realized more than ever that regional security is an interconnected whole and that the fate of all countries in the region is tied to one another, and that one cannot rely on the US and the Israeli regime to ensure regional security,” Araqchi said.

He also appreciated the positions of the Malaysian government and people regarding the imposed war against Iran, particularly their condemnation of the killing of schoolchildren in Minab.

Referring to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Araqchi stated that the waterway had been “completely open and secure” until February 28, 2026, and that Iran and Oman, as littoral states, had provided various free services to passing vessels, including navigation assistance, maritime safety, and environmental monitoring.

However, he said the illegal aggression by the US and the Zionist regime has led to reviews regarding new mechanisms in this regard.

For his part, Hasan referred to his country’s consistently positive and friendly relations with the government and people of Iran.

He stressed that Malaysia has always opposed the use of force in international relations as contrary to the UN Charter and has consistently emphasized the need to create the necessary space for diplomacy and dialogue.

The two sides also emphasized the continuation of consultations and the expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
