Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov met on Thursday on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi and discussed the latest state of bilateral relations, regional developments, and multilateral cooperation.

They also reviewed Tehran-Moscow cooperation in political, energy, transportation, and regional fields.

Referring to the importance of the strategic relations between Iran and Russia, Araqchi briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest developments following the ceasefire in the war of aggression imposed by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran.

He also stressed the expansion of cooperation within regional and international organizations, including BRICS.

The two sides underlined the potential and constructive role of BRICS in reducing differences among regional countries and in collective security mechanisms in the Persian Gulf.

The parties also exchanged views on the latest developments in West Asia and negotiations related to Iran’s nuclear issue.

Lavrov, for his part, stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and supported the expansion of economic relations and cooperation in the fields of energy, transit corridors, and key waterways.

The two sides also referred to previous agreements reached during Araqchi’s visit to St. Petersburg and emphasized the continuation of close consultations and contacts between officials of the two countries at various levels.
