Decoding Trump's Ceasefire Announcement in Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire in Lebanon, prompting questions about the motivations behind the move. While Iran's pressure on the US for this truce is well-known, critics suggest that Trump and Israeli sources aim to downplay Iran's influence.

Politics

According to the ‘war interpretation group’ of Tasnim, Iran's serious pressure on the American side to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon was and is no secret to anyone, and this has been confirmed by both regional and Western sources and media outlets.

However, Trump and Israeli sources, along with some regional sources, are trying to link the ceasefire in Lebanon solely to Trump’s negotiations with the Lebanese government and the Zionist regime, downplaying the role of the resistance and Iran.

Meanwhile, the Zionist regime had attacked Lebanon more than 400 times over approximately one year before the beginning of the third imposed war against Iran, rejecting and neglecting any ceasefire. At that time, there was no news of inviting the Lebanese government to negotiate on this matter, and fundamentally, the Zionists and Americans did not regard the Lebanese government as having any power to pressure the Israeli regime on this issue.

Regarding the manner of announcing this ceasefire, the situation is that the US and Israel, in a deceptive move, want to present the ceasefire as an agreement with the Lebanese government; thus, they can operationalize the pressure for the ceasefire while dissociating it from the resistance. They also intend to exploit this matter as part of their wicked policy of sowing internal discord in Lebanon.
