Speaking to reporters at a weekly press conference on Monday, Esmaeil Baqaei pointed to a recent meeting with Oman regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that it took place at the level of deputy foreign ministers from both countries.
He emphasized that Iran and Oman are two coastal nations with a shared concern for safe passage through the strait.
Baqaei stated that recently, Iran has implemented a series of “security measures” based on international law to ensure safety in this waterway, clearly stating that Iran will not allow enemy vessels to transit.
He added that measures have also been taken to facilitate the passage of non-hostile ships, which require specific protocols.
The spokesman highlighted the responsible decision made to initiate discussions with Oman, another coastal nation, in order to establish a framework for the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that these meetings would continue until a satisfactory outcome is reached.
Regarding the passage of Pakistani ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Baqaei stated that Iran has been very clear about the reasons for implementing monitoring measures in the strait, which are aimed at preventing criminal actions by the enemy and their allies.
He explained that for many non-hostile countries engaging with Iran, provisions for the safe passage of their vessels are being made, pointing out that Pakistan is one of those countries with which Iran has a good relationship.
