Spokesman Condemns US PrSM Missile Attack on Iran’s Lamerd as “War Crime”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the recent US missile strike on a sports hall in Iran’s southern city of Lamerd, calling it a deliberate attack on civilians and a blatant war crime.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Baqaei highlighted that the new American PrSM missile, which made its combat debut on February 28, 2026, targeted a crowded sports hall filled with teenagers, killing 21 children.

He emphasized the indiscriminate nature of the strike, noting that the missile disperses thousands of lethal fragments to maximize human casualties, and condemned the attack as a clear violation of international law and humanitarian norms.

“The American new PrSM missile, which made its combat debut on 28 February 2026, struck a crowded sports hall filled with innocent teenagers in the city of Lamerd, Fars Province. The attack killed 21 young boys and girls. The missile explodes above its target, dispersing thousands of lethal fragments (tungsten pellets) to maximize human casualties,” the spokesman said.

“This is a despicable war crime. As the Syrian poet Ghada al-Samman once wrote: ‘They keep talking and never fall silent for even a moment—perhaps this endless chatter comes from their fear of hearing the voice of their own conscience’,” the Iranian spokesman added.

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.

The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
