In a telephone conversation on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis talked about the consequences of the war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.
The Greek foreign minister expressed serious concern about the ramifications of the war, particularly its security and economic dimensions, and hoped that peace and stability would be restored to the region as soon as possible.
For his part, Araqchi detailed the atrocities committed by the US and the Zionist regime during the 30 days of military aggression against Iran, reminding that all countries have a responsibility to condemn the illegal attacks and egregious violations of humanitarian rights.
He emphasized that indifference towards the lawbreaking and terrorist actions of the US and the Zionist regime has led to the deterioration of the international normative and moral order, with consequences that will affect all countries.
Araqchi stated that insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of the military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran. He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on established principles of international law, has taken a series of measures aimed at preventing the misuse of this waterway by aggressors and their partners for pursuing illegal and aggressive objectives against Iran.
Araqchi noted that Iran’s measures are intended to prevent hostile vessels from traversing the Strait of Hormuz while managing the safe passage of other vessels in coordination with relevant Iranian military-security authorities.
The Iranian foreign minister also recalled the legal obligations of countries under international law to prevent aggressor parties from using their territory and resources to design, support, and execute aggressive operations against other countries.
Araqchi clarified that the military attacks by the US and Israel against Iran constitute a gross violation of Article 4 of the United Nations Charter and are a blatant example of military aggression against a member state of the United Nations. He emphasized that all countries are obligated, in accordance with their international legal duties, to condemn this aggression and refrain from any cooperation or collaboration with the aggressors.
Araqchi reiterated Iran's ongoing defensive operations against aggressors and sites involved in aggression against Iran, including their military bases and facilities located in the territories of regional countries.
He also warned against the schemes of the US and the Zionist regime to expand the scope of the war by compelling other countries to collude and participate in military aggression or to carry out false flag operations against third countries.
The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
