In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Araqchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi talked about the regional developments and the consequences of the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran.
The Chinese foreign minister emphasized his country's principled stance in condemning the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, expressed condolences over the martyrdom of Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, and described the late official as an intelligent, distinguished, and patriotic figure who played a prominent role in securing Iran's national security and interests as well as regional peace and stability.
For his part, Araqchi described the US-Israeli aggressions and crimes against Iran as the main cause of the current situation in the region, underscoring Iran's resolute determination to continue defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity until all objectives are achieved and to make the enemy regret its barbaric aggression.
The Iranian foreign minister considered the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as inseparable from the overall conditions in the region, adding that the insecurity imposed on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is due to the military aggression of the US and the Zionist regime against Iran.
Araqchi emphasized that the measures taken by Iran are in accordance with international law and are aimed at defending its sovereignty and national security, as well as preventing aggressors from exploiting the Hormuz Strait to commit aggressive acts against Iran.
He noted that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to American and Zionist vessels and other parties involved in the military aggression against Iran, noting that the movement of vessels belonging to other countries is carried out in coordination with relevant Iranian authorities.
Araqchi strongly condemned the actions of the United States and some other countries in the Security Council aimed at applying pressure on Iran, stating that the Security Council, instead of fulfilling its duty in preserving international peace and security, has ignored the main cause of the current situation, namely the aggression of the US and the Israeli regime, and instead of condemning and holding the aggressors accountable, has criticized Iran, which is defending itself.
Iran seriously expects the member states of the Security Council, especially China and Russia, to prevent the continued exploitation of the Security Council by the US by adopting a firm position in condemning the US-Israeli war of aggression, Araqchi stated.
In response, Wang Yi reiterated China's principled position in condemning the illegal attack by the United States and Israel against Iran and the violation of Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and underscored that Beijing emphasizes the necessity of stopping hegemonic behaviors in international affairs and respecting diplomacy and international law to resolve disputes.
The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
