US Targets Civilian Neighborhood in Iran's Khorramabad, Kills 9 Civilians

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a brazen act of aggression, US terrorist forces launched airstrikes on residential neighborhoods in Khorramabad, western Iran, during the early hours of Monday, killing nine civilians and leaving dozens injured.

The attack, which struck at approximately 00:30 am local time on March 23, caused severe structural damage, collapsing multiple homes and trapping families under rubble.

The northern districts of Khorramabad were struck by a series of explosions, inflicting devastating physical and structural damage on surrounding areas.

Several residential buildings were completely destroyed, while adjacent structures suffered severe damages, including collapsed walls, shattered windows, and doors torn from their frames.

The human toll of this cowardly assault has been catastrophic, with the bodies of women and children recovered from beneath mountains of debris.

At least 43 people were injured in the attack, with 33 receiving outpatient treatment after initial medical aid.

Ten others were hospitalized, though their conditions are reported as stable, with medical teams providing ongoing care.

The attack not only caused physical destruction but also disrupted essential services, including a widespread power outage in parts of Khorramabad.

Field sources confirmed that no major energy infrastructure was targeted, attributing the blackouts to localized damage to power cables caused by the explosions.

Dariush Barani Beiranvand, the mayor of Khorramabad, condemned the strikes as a "cowardly attack" on purely residential areas, emphasizing that no military facilities were present in the targeted zone.

He confirmed that six residential units were completely demolished, with neighboring homes also sustaining significant damage.

Emergency response teams, including rescue units and Red Crescent Society personnel, are currently on-site, conducting search and rescue operations to clear debris and recover survivors.

The Crisis Management Headquarters has issued urgent advisories, urging citizens to avoid gathering or traveling near the affected areas to prevent traffic congestion and ensure unimpeded access for emergency vehicles.
