In a post on his X account on Saturday, Araqchi lambasted the so-called US security umbrella, declaring it ineffective and riddled with vulnerabilities. He also called on the neighboring countries to prioritize regional unity and remove foreign aggressors who pose threats.
“Touted US security umbrella has proven to be full of holes and inviting rather than deterring trouble. US is now begging others, even China, to help it make Hormuz safe,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
“Iran calls on brotherly neighbors to expel foreign aggressors, especially as their only concern is Israel,” Araqchi added.
The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have intensified dramatically following the recent war of aggression imposed by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, leading to a precarious situation surrounding the vital maritime corridor of the Strait of Hormuz.
This strategic waterway, which serves as a vital passage for a significant portion of the world's oil supply, has become a focal point in the region's escalating crisis.
Writing on Truth Social on Saturday, US President Donald Trump said nations, “especially those affected by Iran’s attempted closure” of the Hormuz Strait, would be sending warships “in conjunction with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe,” naming China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom among those he hoped would contribute.
Hours later, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., told CNN that China wants an immediate cession of hostilities, and that “all parties have the responsibility to ensure stable and unimpeded energy supply.”
In a statement, Chinese Embassy said, “As a sincere friend and strategic partner of Middle Eastern countries, China will continue to strengthen communication with relevant parties, including parties to the conflict, and play a constructive role for de-escalation and restoration of peace."
The US and the Zionist regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
