Iran Condemns US-Israel Strike on Historical Site as ‘Clear War Crime’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei condemned the recent US and Israeli strike on Tehran’s Golestan Palace as a "blatant war crime."

In a post on his official X account, Baqaei said the missile attack on the historical Arg Square complex in Tehran had caused damage to Golestan Palace, describing it as one of the most enduring symbols of the Iranian capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

He described the strike as a "heinous crime aimed at erasing Iran’s cultural heritage, the cradle of ancient history and civilization."

He emphasized that the attack violates multiple international laws, including the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, the 1977 Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and established international judicial precedents.

Baqaei asserted that any deliberate assault by the United States and Israeli regime on Iran’s historical sites and cultural heritage constitutes a "flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and an undisputed war crime."
