Araqchi, who was in Switzerland for a series of diplomatic consultations and to hold the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, held talks with Cassis in Geneva on Tuesday evening.

During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the appropriate arrangements made by the Swiss government to host the current round of Iran-US talks and briefed his counterpart on the discussions conducted over the past two days.

He described the negotiations as very serious and focused, stating that the two sides have generally reached an understanding on a set of guiding principles, on the basis of which the details under consideration in both the sanctions removal and nuclear fields will be drafted in subsequent sessions.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in occupied Palestine and the continuation of the colonial genocide of the Palestinian people.

Araqchi underscored the importance of all governments safeguarding the rule of law as well as the principles and rules enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law, and warned about the consequences of the normalization of violations of international rules and norms.

For his part, the Swiss foreign minister expressed satisfaction that the indirect Iran-US negotiations were held in Geneva and emphasized his country’s readiness to assist in any diplomatic process that would lead to a mutually satisfactory solution to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue and prevent further escalation of tensions.
