Diplomat Confirms Indirect Iran-US Exchanges, Warns of Tough Response to Aggression

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – While Iran is not involved in any direct negotiations with the US, messages are being exchanged via intermediaries, an Iranian deputy foreign minister said, noting that Tehran has warned that any military action would receive a decisive and painful response.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi shared details of a recent meeting with foreign media representatives in Tehran via a post on his X account.

He said that Iran’s “illogical and obstinate” adversaries failed in their military aggression in June 2025 and in attempts to incite internal unrest. He asserted that any subsequent efforts—such as the current deployment of forces and military equipment in the region and threats of military action—would likewise fail.

Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran does not seek war but is fully capable of defending itself and its people. He warned that any military action, even a limited one, would be met with a firm and painful response.

The deputy foreign minister noted that Iran’s adversaries have tested war, sanctions, threats, sabotage, and assassination, but have consistently failed. He urged them to learn from past mistakes and engage with Iran respectfully.

On the question of US-Iran communications, Gharibabadi clarified that while there are no ongoing direct negotiations, messages are being exchanged indirectly. He added that if Washington claims to seek talks, it must first cease threats, and that the outcome of any potential negotiation is not predetermined.

In the current context of military threats, Iran’s top priority remains full readiness to defend itself, he underlined, noting that even if conditions for negotiations existed, Tehran would maintain full preparedness to protect the country, given the US’ history of deception.
