IAEA’s Silence on US, Israeli Strikes against Iran Unacceptable: Nuclear Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran criticized the UN nuclear agency for remaining silent over illegal US and Israeli military attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities during the 12-day war in June 2025, saying such inaction is unacceptable and unprofessional.

Eslami made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, in response to questions about the IAEA’s conduct regarding the 12-day war.

He said the Agency has neither reacted to nor condemned the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stressing that the IAEA failed to act fairly and professionally in accordance with its statute.

Eslami also said Iran’s nuclear technology has a wide scope and that the country has exported and continues to export related products to 50 countries, rejecting portrayals promoted by Iran’s enemies.

The United States is the only country that has actually used an atomic bomb and diverted nuclear technology from its proper course, and therefore has no right to present such claims to the world.

He said the US and the Israeli regime carried out the 12-day war, while the IAEA failed to regulate its conduct in line with its legal responsibilities.

It has now become completely clear that the continued pressure campaigns and additional issues being raised against Iran are aimed at obstructing the country’s progress, Eslami stated.

Commenting on recent remarks by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi regarding Iran’s alleged non-compliance with the NPT, Eslami said Iran expects the agency chief to refrain from using such language and to remain committed to his legal duties as defined by the IAEA statute, both in wording and in official reports.
